Established in 1937, the firm is recognised for its forward-thinking approach and longstanding presence, with offices in Tauranga, Rotorua, Whakatāne and Taupō. When the Partners prepared to relocate into the new Northern Quarter building, they sought a workplace that reflected their values, celebrated local culture, and supported both client experience and staff wellbeing.
Modern Office, alongside the lead interior designer Wingates, was proud to partner with Holland Beckett to bring this vision to life.
Creating a Warm, Welcoming Experience
Holland Beckett wanted their new workplace to feel inviting and purposeful for clients and staff. The firm operates in an open-plan configuration, with legal teams across one floor to encourage collaboration across specialities and levels of seniority. The layout includes a range of settings: quiet rooms, phone booths, private meeting rooms, and a flexible training/events space.
The reception area, known internally as the “Koru Lounge”, creates a friendly first impression where clients can enjoy a coffee before heading into private meeting rooms that provide comfort and confidentiality.
Thoughtful Design: Products, Fabrics & Finishes
The interior palette draws inspiration from coastal environments, using calming, neutral tones as a base. Pops of colour come through in the café furniture to bring energy without overwhelming the space.
Modern Office supplied workstations that balance function and simplicity. Two screen fabric variations help create depth across the floorplate. Custom storage units, planters, and timber details break up the layout, adding warmth and keeping the space from feeling like a “sea of desks”.
Practicality was central to the furniture selections. We provided desk dividers, cable management, and storage solutions to suit Holland Beckett’s workflow. Every desk is sit-to-stand, supporting ergonomic comfort and an easy setup for new staff. We also ensured clean cabling across the open-plan floor, feeding trays directly into droppers — essential in a workspace with more than 100 desks.
Sustainability was part of the conversation too. Many existing furniture items were reused, including Modern Office tambour units and desk chairs. This supported the firm’s environmental goals and kept visual consistency.
