Modern Office recently partnered with Elim Church in Tauranga to create a warm, welcoming and thoughtfully designed workspace that balances functionality with carefully curated design detail.
The vision for the new office environment was to create a light-filled space that felt inviting for both staff and visitors, while incorporating custom detailing, layered textures and subtle pops of colour to bring personality and individuality to each area.
The result is a cohesive, personality-filled workspace that feels calm, comfortable and connected, while still allowing each zone to maintain its own identity.
The project included a variety of work and community-focused spaces, including an open office area, private offices, reception, waiting area, counselling spaces, staffroom and a boardroom designed to function as a flexible multi-purpose space.
The client had a clear vision for both the overall aesthetic and how each space needed to function, which meant careful planning and close attention to detail throughout the fitout process.
A standout feature within the project was the use of the Mobel Hug Chair as a welcoming lounge-style seating option. Teal upholstery was selected in the waiting area to introduce a playful pop of colour and warmth, while a soft oatmeal tone was chosen for the counselling space to create a more neutral, calming atmosphere.
The balance of colour, texture and functionality helped create spaces that feel approachable, comfortable and professional.
A key focus throughout the fitout was maintaining consistency and harmony across the workspace while still subtly differentiating key areas.
Blackened Ash was incorporated into the custom reception unit to separate the reception area from the open office environment visually. To maintain continuity and flow throughout the workspace, touches of Blackened Ash were also carried through into the custom storage solutions within the office areas.
Autumn Oak tops were used consistently across desks, tables and storage to create warmth and cohesion throughout the space. In the boardroom, flip tables were selected to provide flexibility, allowing the room to easily adapt for formal meetings, collaborative sessions and training events.
The combination of natural tones, layered textures, adaptable furniture solutions and custom detailing resulted in a workspace that feels welcoming, cohesive and highly considered.
With a strong client vision and a number of custom elements involved, this project required close collaboration and attention to detail from concept through to completion.
The result is a beautifully balanced workspace that reflects Elim Church’s values while creating an environment their team and visitors can genuinely enjoy spending time in.

"Kelly from Modern Office was a pleasure to work with from the start to finish of our office upgrade. She understood our requirements well for the different spaces we were trying to create. A big help was in providing concept plans showing Modern Offices furniture in our space so we could visualize the end look. Nothing was a problem as we worked with different ideas and budget constraints.
Our space used to be dark, damp with old mismatched outdated furniture that no one wanted to work in. Now it's bright, open plan feel, with the addition of beautiful furniture means our staff enjoy working from the office and make use of the many additional spaces that we can invite people from our church community to meet in".
